The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More

Uses for our ferrite disc magnets:

Building with timber is still popular, even though many different types of materials, especially all types of plastics and other synthetic building materials are making inroads into the construction process. Notwithstanding the cost effectiveness and versatility of these newcomers, people still love timber.

In order to better compete with the new materials on offer, makers of timber products are turning to magnets as a fastening method over traditional fasteners like screws and nails. Magnets including 8mmx5mm ferrite disc magnets provide cabinet makers and wood turners with a permanent and removable fastening system at very low cost. Embedded in desks, benches, work tables, fixed and floating shelving, custom display stands and racking, seating and stair treads, magnets constitute a hidden or secret fixing method preferred by modern customers.

The advantages of magnetic fastening are significant. Traditional fasteners pierce or breach the fabric or surface of the timber, creating a variation in texture. Age and gentle wear are part of the charm of timber, but it is preferable if this ageing is uniform. Variations in texture or colour accentuated at the fixing points are not desirable. At these points, water ingress can discolour the nails or screws, or spoil the paint or coating in a way not evident elsewhere on the artefact.

Magnetic fasteners in place of screws, nails or clips also provide soft closures for doors and draws, holding and releasing in an intuitive and nuanced manner at known push and pull forces. For cabinetry and benches, racks and shelving in a marine, retail, hospitality, medical or scientific space magnetic fasteners allow for ease of deconstruction and reconstruction making more affordable and more pleasant the chore of cleaning, servicing or resurfacing. These ferrite disc magnets, permanent and removable, improve the appearance, reduce the cost of maintaining and allow for some assemblages, like beverage racks and shelving to be reconfigured fuss free to suit a different sized space.

Our ferrite disc magnets come in a variety of sizes and strengths. No longer used in children's toy assemblies, ferrite magnets continue to be used on the back of three dimensional fridge magnets and in some school science projects.
